Maps – EP – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
View More By Yeah Yeah Yeahs Our Review“Maps” represents everything that’s so seductive and enticing about New York art-punks Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They build the tension and drama with a slow, methodical build and then hit the jugular with an enigmatic yet irresistible hook. Singer Karen O has a natural ability to sound both completely immersed in the moment and suspect of the potential downside, like a woman only half convinced she should give her heart away. The band is tightly controlled chaos. For further combative power, “Countdown” stirs a strong drink and the John Peel session of “Miles Away” is even louder, recalling the band’s obvious debts to PJ Harvey at her most extreme, with dashes of ‘70s punk rock pumping through the rhythmic assault..
