Live/1975-85 – Bruce SpringsteenView More By Bruce Springsteen Our ReviewBruce Springsteen earned his reputation as one of the greatest rock ‘n’ rollers of all time with unparalleled live shows. Even before he was well-known, his epic performances were often three or four hours and featured classic ‘50s and ‘60s rockers alongside the most inventive original songs of the ‘70s. Live/1975-85 lets us glimpse the magic. A piano version of “Thunder Road” from ‘75 starts the set. From there, Bruce’s legendary 1978 appearance at the Roxy in Los Angeles proves The E Street Band’s greatness. Then arenas beckon, and Bruce plays the big stages. Despite this, he still commands an unusual intimacy. He recounts stories of his youth. He dares break out the acoustic guitar and harmonica for “This Land Is Your Land,” “Nebraska,” and “Johnny 99.” Edwin Starr’s “War” crashes through the night, and Tom Waits’ “Jersey Girl” sounds like it was written for the Boss himself. But the heart of the experience is what you expect: inspired versions of “Born to Run,” “The River,” and “The Promised Land.” There isn’t much better than Bruce in his prime.. Customer ReviewsStealing the River (5 stars)This version of The River is probably Bruce's most moving piece. Of course, iTunes knows that and takes advantage of the situation. I have this set in hard copy on cd, but lost the one with The River on it. Why do I have to spend $35 for ONE SONG? If you want people want us to buy the whole album, fine. But at least sell these three albums seperately. I'll just get spend the $5 and get it on EBay I guess. Good work guys. Great set but expensive... (4 stars) And I only say that because you can buy the same album for about $5 less and cooler album art. ???? (5 stars) great album but why is it under Woody Guthrie ? BiographyBorn: September 23, 1949 in Freehold, NJGenre: Rock Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s In the decades following his emergence on the national scene in 1975, Bruce Springsteen proved to be that rarity among popular musicians, an artist who maintained his status as a frontline recording and performing star, consistently selling millions of albums and selling out arenas and stadiums around the world year after year, as well as retaining widespread critical approbation, with ecstatic reviews greeting those discs and shows. Although there were a few speed bumps along the way in Springsteen's...
