Live At the Greek Theater 1982 – The Doobie BrothersView More By The Doobie Brothers Our ReviewOne of the great outdoor venues, UC Berkeley's Greek Theater has hosted hundreds of concerts over the years, as well as commencement ceremonies and speeches by everyone from William Hearst to the Dalai Lama. The Doobies were at the height of their powers in 1982, and this 19-track collection finds them pulling out all the stops for a very appreciative audience. Live recordings (especially in the pre-digital age) are notoriously hit-or-miss, but the sound quality here is pristine, with a crystal-clear mix on the horn-infused instrumentation and Michael McDonald's extra-smooth vocals in full effect. All of their classic hits are included, such as "Listen to the Music," "Takin’ It to the Streets," "Long Train Runnin’," "What a Fool Believes," and "Minute by Minute." Whether you're an old-school fan from back in the day or are just now getting hip to their relentlessly funky boogie-rock stylings, do yourself a favor and check this out.. I was able to see the Doobies three years in a row when I was in high school, and their music evolved each of those years. Back then, my tastes would have been pre-Michael, but I've since learned to appreciate quality musicianship whenever I hear it, and this album is quite good. The playing is tight, and a good sampling of their catalog is BiographyFormed: March, 1970 in San Jose, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s As one of the most popular California pop/rock bands of the '70s, the Doobie Brothers evolved from a mellow, post-hippie boogie band to a slick, soul-inflected pop band by the end of the decade. Along the way, the group racked up a string of gold and platinum albums in the U.S., along...
