Keys and Codes (Remixes) – Death Cab for CutieView More By Death Cab for Cutie Our ReviewIt’s an odd but not unwelcome juxtaposition to have the sensitive heart-on-the-sleeve musings of Ben Gibbard and Death Cab for Cutie sliced and diced for the dance floor. Just as Gibbard’s work with The Postal Service indicates, he’s more than game to hear what the electronic world has to offer. The Cut Copy remix of “Doors Unlocked and Open” kickstarts this investigation into another side of Death Cab, and other remixers also have quite a fun time playing with the tracks. “You Are a Tourist” retains the original’s melodicism but adds kinetic energy. Dillon Francis truly warps “Underneath the Sycamore.” Rac Maury funks up “Some Boys” until it rocks into outer space. Unicorn Kid turns “Unobstructed Views” into a shimmering keyboard piece where Gibbard’s voice fights for survival. “Home Is a Fire” turns into a moody ambient track, while “Codes and Keys,” remixed by Yeasayer, now sounds like, well, a Yeasayer track. This is sure to divide hardcore fans, but for those who enjoy playing with electronics it’s quite the trip.. Customer Reviewsa new angle (4 stars)this album opens the doors for a new crowd to enjoy death cab's music in a new way. i do not particularly enjoy this style of music but if i were in an environment where this type of music was being played i would be stoked to hear one of these remixes blast through the speakers. i would even be inclined to dance (which i DO NOT DO). These remixes are another way for people to enjoy the awesomeness that is Death Cab For Cutie. Great (for a remix album) (5 stars) I love these tracks, but maybe they're not for all Death Cab fans. If you don't own and like other remix projects this won't be for you. We all make mistakes.... (1 star) Ok, so if your best friend comes to you and says that they've invented a flying machine using only toothpicks and gum, would you let them mangle and possibly kill themselves? I personally would not, i would tell them that that was the most idiotic, stupid idea ever, no matter how hard it may be to crush their spirits and tell them they cannot fly. So, DCFC, though i love this band so, you guys are my favorite of all time, but i am sorry BiographyFormed: 1997 in Bellingham, WAGenre: Alternative Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s Death Cab for Cutie's rise from small-time solo project to Grammy-nominated rock band is one of indie rock's greatest success stories. Launched in the bayside college town of Bellingham, Washington, the group was originally a side project for singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard, an engineering student at Western Washington University who split his time between school and music. Taking a break from his local power pop band, Pinwheel, Gibbard began recording an album's worth of solo material during the summer...
