Hammersmith Odeon, London '75 (Live) – Bruce SpringsteenView More By Bruce Springsteen Our ReviewThis is the stuff of legend. Born to Run had just been released to unanimous acclaim. Bruce and the band went to the U.K., where they’d been hyped as the group to see. With the stakes so high, they didn’t back down; these are definitive performances. “Thunder Road” has never sounded more naked and vulnerable. “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” is clutch, a tight, affirmative performance that swings and punches with authority. “Spirit in the Night” slinks and unfolds like the New Jersey shoreline. The mix from Bob Clearmountain points up the incomparable band chemistry, unlocking the magic and spotlighting the instruments while not sacrificing the wall of sound. By 1975, Springsteen had a complex web of songs with the most inventive structures imaginable. From the ethereal organ haunting the ghosts of “Lost in the Flood” or the simple piano accompaniment driving “For You” to the wistful memories of “Backstreets” and the urban sprawl of “Jungleland,” Springsteen and The E Street Band were never more operatic or intense.. Customer ReviewsMaybe just as great as BORN TO RUN itself (5 stars)Oh my God! I’ve heard plenty of Springsteen’s live albums and videos, but this one tops them all. With the possible exception of the 78 tour, this was Springsteen’s greatest tour of all time. Back then, fresh from recording BORN TO RUN, Bruce and the E Street band wanted it badly, and you can tell by listening to this great concert. Listen to the sincerity and simplicity of “Thunder Road” or the intensity of “Tenth-Avenue Freez Fans, this is it! (5 stars) After listening to Bruce for about 35 years, and hearing thousands of bootleg songs of all types of quality, I gotta tell you this: buy this CD immediately. No matter what level fan you are, the chance to hear Bruce in his heyday in pristine sound quality (this is an amazing quality recording) is impossible to pass up. There are classic cuts here too, such as the amazing slow "For You" (alone worth the price of the CD) and "Th Great Album. (4 stars) This is a great album from Bruce. Some reviewers on here are referring to his later work (Rising,Devils) as crap. Born to run is an incredible album I will give you that but I will also say that every album he has done since has been just as incredible. Everyone has an opinion on which album they like best from Bruce but please have some respect and intelligence by not calling the mans work Crap.
