Gary Allan – Greatest Hits – Gary AllanView More By Gary Allan Our ReviewOver the past 15 years Gary Allan has become Nashville’s leading dark horse, quietly turning out a consistent string of well-crafted hits that retain their integrity instead of grabbing for mainstream gimmickry. Sequenced according to mood rather than chronology, Greatest Hits stretched back to Allan’s first hit, 1996’s “Her Man,” a catchy, untroubled love song that is indicative of the singer’s low-key approach. The collection proves Allan is a versatile artist, crossing into hard rock (“Man of Me,”), folk (“It Would Be You”) and even R&B (“Songs About Rain”), but the songs are always grounded by his voice — a hard-edged high tenor that holds songs together like a leather strap. If Allan sings like a man who has earned the right, it’s because he has. He started singing in California bars with his dad at age 13, and worked a variety of day jobs before being noticed by Nashville in the mid-‘90s. Greatest Hits shows a voice that is tough and smart and sincere — qualities that when found together are worth more than commercial success in an industry where singers will stoop to anything to garner radio plays.. Customer ReviewsAbout Time (5 stars)This album is probably a little overdue. There are so many great songs from Gary Allan that limiting this "Greatest Hits" CD to 15 songs would prove challenging for anyone. Those who know and like one or two of his songs will definitely enjoy this compilation and get their taste of everything he has to offer. All of his previous albums are represented, but so many great songs are still left to discover. My advice to the rookie Best Country Compilation of the Year! (5 stars) I first heard about Gary Allan in 2000, but (sadly) it took me a little why to really get into his stuff. And now? I'm addicted. Why this man isn't recognized more by Country Radio and the Associations just baffles my mind, because he's, quite frankly, better than A LOT of the more mainstream acts out on the air today. The album is filled with some of the top hits he had, but that doesn't mean that there aren't jewels elsewhere in his wo Gary Allan at his best... (5 stars) Gary Allan is the most underrated country music artist is music today. He has a great voice and this cd really shows him through his career. If you don't have any Gary Allan in your iTunes I would recommend this whole cd! Gary you rock and keep up the good work! BiographyBorn: December 05, 1967 in La Mirada, CAGenre: Country Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s Gary Allan hit the honky tonk circuit in his native Southern California at the seasoned age of 12. Playing in and out of the smoky, sweaty bars with his dad's band led Allan to follow in his father's footsteps and start his own band. When Allan returned to those same honky tonks with his own combo, the sound was true Bakersfield country: Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, and the rest. Allan spent most of his twenties honing his skills as a new traditionalist country singer; finally, in 1996, he was picked...
