Foo Fighters: Greatest Hits – Foo FightersView More By Foo Fighters Our ReviewKurt Cobain’s death signaled the end for Nirvana. No one expected its drummer, Dave Grohl, to leave his kit behind and front one of the most successful hard rock groups of the next decade. Yet that’s exactly what happened. Grohl’s pop sense has proven strong, drawing from the heavy but hummable roots of the Descendents and Hüsker Dü and taking them to modern rock heights. His strong sense of humor, evident in the band’s videos, pushes aside the dark, mournful tones of grunge for the evergreen pop hooks of “Everlong,” “My Hero,” “Learn to Fly” and “The Pretender.” Foo Fighters began as a solo project (“This Is a Call,” “Big Me”) with a self-titled debut album recorded at home with Grohl as its only member. Other members were signed up in order to pull off live shows and Grohl has never looked back. This retrospective includes two new cuts, the Tom Petty Americana of “Wheels” (Grohl played drums for Petty’s Heartbreakers) and the acoustic-to-electric anthem power of “Word Forward,” plus an acoustic version of “Everlong.”. Customer ReviewsPerfect (5 stars)The Foo Fighters have been one of my favorite bands for years and now people can buy most of their best songs on one album. The two new tracks, Word Forward and Wheels, are both great new additions too and belong up their with other awesome Foo Fighter's songs. They could have added a few more all-time greats but, then again, the Foo's have so many great songs too. Foo Fighters (3 stars) They left out allot of their better songs. Should have a disc 2. Where are I'll Stick Around, DOA and Let it Die? (4 stars) I thought for sure they would be on here. Other than that, no complaints. Greg Dulli commented positively about them in more than one place, but few suspected that these homemade tapes would launch one of the biggest modern rock bands of the post-grunge era. As it turns out, that’s exactly what Grohl’s Foo Fighters became, perhaps the one band of the alt-rock revolution to enjoy continual success on the charts and on the road without a dip in popularity.
