Fly – Dixie ChicksView More By Dixie Chicks Our ReviewFly expands on the blueprint of Wide Open Spaces, but the Dixie Chicks’ sophomore effort is invigorated by newfound confidence — even swagger. With the grit and gusto of roadhouse hell raisers, the trio pulls out “If I Fall You’re Going Down With Me,” “Sin Wagon,” and “Hole In My Head,” the last of which contains the refrain: “I need a boy like you like a hole in my head.” The Chicks don’t force themselves to choose between gutsiness and romance. Even the pop/country/bluegrass hybrids of “Ready to Run,” “Cowboy Take Me Away,” and “Without You” are underscored by a sense of wild mischief. And it’s impressive how many things the group does well. Their pop songs appeal to an audience of millions, while “Don’t Waste Your Heart,” “Hello Mr. Heartache,” and “Some Days You Gotta Dance” keep them rooted in the tradition of Hank Williams, George Jones and Buck Owens. The centerpiece of Fly is undoubtedly “Goodbye Earl,” a battered woman’s revenge fantasy which the Chicks handle with just the right note of fearsome glee.. Customer ReviewsLove it (5 stars)These girls can sing no matter what you think of them. Just b/c one of them doesn't like Bush doesn't mean that you shouldn't listen to their music. Everybody has an opinion. DIXIE CHICKS KICK TAIL! (5 stars) Okay, no offense to all you Bush lovers, but Dixie Chicks were just speaking their mind rather bluntly and rather stupid, but so what? THIS Is Good Country (5 stars) Forget Taylor Swift and her bland, overdone country-pop. This album is pure genius. BiographyFormed: 1989 in Dallas, TXGenre: Country Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Formed in 1989 as a Western-themed bluegrass band, the Dixie Chicks eventually became one of the most popular acts in contemporary country music, as well as the highest-selling female group of all time. Beginning with 1998's Wide Open Spaces, they struck a balance between the commercial, radio-ready aesthetic of country-pop and the rootsy sound of neo-traditionalist country, a combination that helped distinguish the trio from such concurrent stars as Shania Twain. The Dixie Chicks further distanced...
