Dream Street – Janet JacksonView More By Janet Jackson Our ReviewDream Street captures the young diva in the midst of rapid creative transformation. Janet Jackson’s first album had been an enjoyable but lightweight platter of youthful R&B, while her forthcoming album (Control) would help blow the doors off the possibilities of pop music in the ‘80s. Between those landmarks lies Dream Street. The Janet shown here is twice as confident as the Janet on her first album, and on her second album she was given the opportunity to work with some of the best minds in the business. Prince’s colleague Jesse Johnson contributes “Pretty Boy” and “Fast Girls,” two songs that anticipate the peculiar texture and hypnotic atmosphere of Janet’s later work. The classic Jackson family sound can be heard on “All My Love To You,” a song written and produced by Janet’s big brother Marlon (and featuring the backing vocals of brother Michael). Marlon also oversaw “Don’t Stand Another Chance,” which more than any other song here, anticipates the whip-lashing pop of future Janet hits like “Control” and “Miss You Much.”. Customer ReviewsBetter than her first album (5 stars)I have to insist "Dream Street" is better than Janet's first album. After finally finding it in itunes, I listened to the sample of "All My Love to You" and knew this song would make me want to start dancing. I haven't listened to all of the songs on this album, but "All My Love to You" and "Don't Stand another chance" are highly reccommended. If you're looking for an album with dance music (at least e A Little Gem From the Past! (5 stars) First of all, lets keep this in perspective...this is from about 23 years ago..some of the reviewers probably weren't even around then...I remember Janet performing "Don't Stand Another Chance" on American Bandstand-and it was evident she had charisma then. The groundwork she laid for this particular album is evident for her breakout album, "Control" which to this day, many view as her first album. Is it her best work? I didn't know (4 stars) that DreamStreet was such an upbeat album. You can tell the ground work is being laid for Control. I think the album is a must have for any Janet Fan who likes to collect her stuff. BiographyBorn: May 16, 1966 in Gary, INGenre: Pop Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Few celebrity siblings can emerge from the shadows of their already famous relations to become superstars in their own right and with their own distinct personalities. That's exactly what Janet Jackson did in becoming one of the biggest female pop and R&B stars of the '80s and '90s. Since her breakthrough in 1986 with the album Control, Jackson's career as a hitmaker has been a model of consistency, rivaling Madonna and Whitney Houston in terms of pop chart success over the long haul. A big part...
