Detours – Sheryl CrowView More By Sheryl Crow Our ReviewWith 2008’s Detours, Sheryl Crow has made her most personal album to date without sacrificing her innate pop charms. Usually when an artist turns introspective, the results are difficult, less accessible and idiosyncratic. But without losing her tight connection to the songwriting muse Crow attacks the geo-political situation (“God Bless This Mess,” “Shine Over Babylon,” “Gasoline”), explores her personal dealings with breast cancer (“Make it Go Away (Radiation Song)”), her difficult relationships (“Diamond Ring” about Lance Armstrong) and her new life as the mother of an adopted son (“Lullaby for Wyatt”), all with a grace and professionalism that makes for personally affecting listening. Crow reunited with producer Bill Bottrell who helmed her 1993 breakthrough Tuesday Night Music Club and together they maintain the sense of play in her music. The cheerleading chants of “Out of Our Heads,” the ‘70s soul swagger of “Now That You’re Gone,” the sweet melodic arc of “Drunk With the Thought Of You” and the plush radio pop of “Love is All There Is” display Crow’s great stylistic range and ability to rise to any challenge.. Customer ReviewsSheryl Crow - not just pop, but folky (4 stars)Detours is extremely politically, and is based on New Orleans when Katrina hit and our current government. This album is very mature and has some great tunes on it. Shine Over Babylon and Love Is Free are instant hits that are really catchy after a few listens. But Crow proves to us that hardships make for a great muse. "Detours" is a brilliantly crafted album that brings Sheryl back in true form; she embraces her rock roots and sings passionately about the world around us. Teaming up with the same producer that helped create her acclaimed album, "Sheryl Cr Good Follow Up to Wildflower.... (4 stars) Although I loved Wildflower, Detours really shows Sheryl's deep feelings and concerns. It addresses her concern of global warming in particular... Her voice is amazing here as it always is.. I particularly love "Lullaby for Wyatt" because it is full of such love and tenderness. It really captures the way a parent feels for their child. Other songs such as God Bless This Mess, Love is Free, Peace Be Upon Us are more upbeat and ar BiographyBorn: February 11, 1962 in Kennett, MOGenre: Pop Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Sheryl Crow's fresh, updated spin on classic roots rock made her one of the most popular mainstream rockers of the '90s. Her albums were loose and eclectic on the surface, yet were generally tied together by polished, professional songcraft. Crow's sunny, good-time rockers and world-weary ballads were radio staples for much of the '90s, and she was a perennial favorite at Grammy time. Although her songwriting style was firmly anchored to the rock tradition, she wasn't a slave to it — her free-associative,...
