Creedence Clearwater Revival: The Complete Collection – Creedence Clearwater RevivalView More By Creedence Clearwater Revival Our ReviewIt's not exactly complete—since it doesn't include Mardi Gras, the group's final album recorded as a trio—but The Complete Collection does feature just about every Creedence song one could want, along with live versions and alternate takes that flesh out the band's catalog. John Fogerty was a peerless songwriter, able to say it all in three minutes or less. His string of hit singles let Creedence play on both AM and FM radio at a time when the distinction was an important one between pop groups and "serious" rock bands. Rock 'n' roll doesn't get much better than "Green River," "Bad Moon Rising," "Down on the Corner," "Fortunate Son," or "Run Through the Jungle." The band was often characterized as "swamp rock" and sung of being "Born on the Bayou," despite originating in the Bay Area. It was also a band with worthwhile deep cuts, as the greatness of "Wrote a Song for Everyone," "Ramble Tamble," and the 11-minute cover of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" illustrate. The amount of hit singles here is staggering, and the quality is even more so.. Customer ReviewsHardly "complete" (4 stars)This collection, as good as it is, only deserves 4 stars. How can it be "complete" if some of their songs are missing?? A more accurate title might be "Almost Complete Collection." CCR released 7 studio albums, not 6, and while it may not be their best album, Mardi Gras is not represented at all. This is not a complete collection. Not "Complete" w/out "Mardi Gras" (4 stars) No CCR collection can be considered complete without the inclusion of their final LP, "Mardi Gras." While "Mardi Gras" was arguably (certainly, in my opinion) their worst LP because the drummer (Doug Clifford) and bass player (Stu Cook) demanded and received space on the album for their mediocre/poor songwriting efforts, it was STILL released as a CCR album, and should have been included here. This exclusion smacks of pay CCR rocks! (5 stars) This is awesome BiographyFormed: 1967 in El Cerrito, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s At a time when rock was evolving further and further away from the forces that had made the music possible in the first place, Creedence Clearwater Revival brought things back to their roots with their concise synthesis of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B, and country. Though CCR was very much a group in their tight, punchy arrangements, their vision was very much singer, songwriter, guitarist, and leader John Fogerty's. Fogerty's classic compositions for Creedence both evoked enduring images of Americana...
