Cradlesong – Rob ThomasView More By Rob Thomas Our ReviewMatchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas produces pop music that has one ear cocked towards classic AOR through the decades, with the other ear turned towards keeping the productions electrified to ensure the songs never sit still. His vocals are assured if never quite a revelation. “Real World ‘09” shuffles with a manic intensity as Thomas attempts to put the world into modern perspective, sounding more than a little like Eddie Vedder shuddering at the thought of another love affair ending if not the rest of the world falling apart. “Her Diamonds” (the album’s first single), “Give Me the Meltdown,” and “Someday” crackle with the pop urgency and anthemic choruses demanded by pop radio. “Fire On the Mountain” slides slightly towards world beat. In interviews, Thomas has said Cradlesong was inspired in part by Paul Simon’s South American inspired Rhythm of the Saints. “Hard On You” employs a sleek, easeful groove reminiscent of Silk Degreesera Boz Scaggs with a cleaner surface. The title track pulses with a sense of sadness and foreboding. Thomas is a sensitive singer-songwriter cast in modern rock production.. Customer Reviewscompletion (5 stars)I've already bought the 4 main singles previously, but it won't let me complete my album like it said? What's up iTunes? Wow! A solid sophomore album for Rob Thomas. (5 stars) This album is honestly the best CD I have heard so far this year. It is very different from his first album, Something To Be.... this album is more mellow and "pop"y. However, his voice is still excellent, and he has some standout tracks. I personally love Her Diamonds, Real World '09, and Snowblind. I love all the tracks, but those are my favorites. The only two tracks I really didn't like was Natural and Fire On the Mountain, but Rob Thomas pushes out one great song after another!! (5 stars) Rob Thomas is definitely one of the best in this generation. Every album he's released, whether it be with Matchbox Twenty or solo, has been top notch, and this album is no different. In my opinion, it's even better than his first solo album. There's not one song on here that I don't like. Believe me, you want this album!! First review!! BiographyBorn: February 14, 1972 in Landstuhl, GermanyGenre: Pop Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s As the lead singer and principal songwriter for Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas found success with a blend of '70s rock influences, slick hooks, and 1990s post-grunge crunch. The Florida-based band broke through in 1996 with "Push" and never looked back, issuing single after single, scoring hits in various radio formats, and watching their debut LP, Yourself or Someone Like You, go platinum 12 times over in the U.S. Thomas himself won numerous songwriting awards as the scribe...
