Cowboy Town – Brooks & DunnView More By Brooks & Dunn Our ReviewIt’s been nigh on 17 years since Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn first slapped their brand onto an album’s worth of Lone Star twang-rock and heartfelt balladry. The duo has cranked up its patriotic component and cruised on (with a few commercial dips in the road) ever since. Cowboy Town (2007) largely stays true to form, but draws deeper from B&K’s Southwestern roots for inspiration. The swagger in the pair’s collective step gets looser on tunes like “Drop In The Bucket” (a ZZ Top-style rave-up) and “Tequila” (a raucous bar anthem if ever there was one). The glory days of the ‘70s Texas music scene are saluted in “The Ballad of Jerry Jeff Walker” (featuring guest vocals by JJ himself), while the title song reaffirms heartland virtues to a Springsteen-like track. Then there’s “Johnny Cash Junkie (Buck Owens Freak),” an absolutely shameless invocation of country music iconography. Further populist social commentary is offered in “American Dreamer” and “God Must Be Busy.” If there’s anything lacking here, it’s an undeniable romantic ballad, but even so, Cowboy Town is prime Brooks & Dunn, full of hell-raising, flag-waving and moments of sober reflection.. Customer ReviewsPretty Good (5 stars)Pretty Good Cd. Cowboy town is my personal favorite. And Proud of the house we built. Well what can I say, another typical good cd from Brooks and Dunn. As Always... (4 stars) I must say "Cowboy Town" is quite good. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is we haven't had a single from Kix in way too long. I am really hoping that this album proves different with "American Dreamer", "Chance of a Lifetime", and "The Ballad of JJW" seeming worthy of release at first listen. More likely the singles will go to Ronnie though with "Tequila", "Johnnie Cash Junkie" Great Album (5 stars) Another solid album, Brooks and Dunn defiantly keep the continuous hits coming and with their traditional good old boy voices and great mix songs this is one of the best albums to come out in a while. BiographyFormed: 1988 in Nashville, TNGenre: Country Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s The undisputed kings of the '90s line-dancing craze, Brooks & Dunn are not only the biggest-selling duo in country music history, they've also sold more records than any other duo period, including Simon & Garfunkel. Ronnie Dunn was the quietly intense singer with the soulful voice, while Kix Brooks played the part of the high-energy showman. Neither had been able to break through as a solo act, but together they hit upon a winning formula of rambunctious, rocked-up honky tonk with punchy,...
