Collapse Into Now – R.E.M.View More By R.E.M. Our ReviewCollapse Into Now continues the electric pulse of Accelerate and brings it to a new loudness. The days of Stipe mumbling are long passed, but his days of yelling over the band are in full swing. Even when he can think of nothing but “Oh My Heart” to serve as a chorus, he does it with a passion usually reserved for the more topical tunes. “It Happened Today” jangles like the band re-found “Driver 8” and decided to ask for directions. “Every Day Is Yours to Win” swamps up the sound with so many instruments swirling that the band can hardly be called an instrumental three-piece since Mike Mills colors everything in sight. “Discoverer,” “All the Best” and “Mine Smell Like Honey,” with production that ramps up the serrated edges of the group, grind with distortion and an aggression not often associated with the post-Bill Berry group. “Walk It Back” is the piano ballad. “Alligator Aviator Autopilot Antimatter” and “That Someone Is You” are the stream-of-consciousness rockers. “Blue,” the official album closer,” is an extra-terrestrial transmission where it sounds as if Michael Stipe merges with his radio stuck between stations.. Customer ReviewsFlawless. (5 stars)This is why R.E.M is legend. I hope it sells well. It deserves to. This may be there last one. R.E.M, just remember. We love you because of your love of music, writing, performing, and creating. And that you love your fans. Keep at it guys... man, I wish you would see this... just know that the world loves you R.E.M! Are they going out with a bang or in their second prime? (5 stars) I'm a long time R.E.M. lover and am pretty blown away by their continuing talent. I loved their loud and quick paced last album Accelerate. Wasn't sure were they would go from there but they've outdone themselves. If you've ever been an R.E.M. fan in the past - this CD has something for everyone. I'm continually astounded by Michael Stipe's voice. Show me another rock star who can hold a candle to his voice even after 30 years. Also, M More great music (4 stars) Thanks to those here who compared this to Around the Sun. As Around the Sun is an REM masterpiece, it became a no-brainer to purchase. The comparison isn't apt, as I find each REM disc stands up on its own. This one certainly stands up. To those looking for this band to go back and recapture that sound you first discovered, you will look in vain. This band evloves as all great bands that last do. BiographyFormed: 1980 in Athens, GAGenre: Rock Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s R.E.M. marked the point when post-punk turned into alternative rock. When their first single, "Radio Free Europe," was released in 1981, it sparked a back-to-the-garage movement in the American underground. While there were a number of hardcore and punk bands in the U.S. during the early '80s, R.E.M. brought guitar pop back into the underground lexicon. Combining ringing guitar hooks with mumbled, cryptic lyrics and a D.I.Y. aesthetic borrowed from post-punk, the band simultaneously sounded traditional...
