City of Evil – Avenged SevenfoldView More By Avenged Sevenfold Our ReviewThe number of the beast (that’s 666, kids) is recounted; the martial rhythms of metal are instituted; and singer M. Shadows incorporates as many of the techniques of emo and screamo as he can jam into these 11 tracks. For their third album, Huntington Beach, California’s Avenged Sevenfold aren’t exactly giving a history lesson in heavy metal, but they have learned quite a few tricks of the genre. There’s the epic scope of their seven-plus minute compositions (and there are four of those here) where they counterbalance their merciless assault with atmospherics that suggest one day they will “mature” to mainstream accessibility. (Don’t laugh, it happened for Metallica.) There’s also the steamrolling passion of their shorter tunes (the economical five-minutes of “Burn It Down”), proving that AS are jacks of all metal trades. Guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates obviously know how to employ a twin-guitar attack – even if it is occasionally blurred by cellos or the occasional ballad.. Customer ReviewsThis is where best of old meets best of new (5 stars)I have been listening to this for a couple of months now, and I have to say this is one of the better metal albums out there. There is a great blend of the good old days when musicians had to really know how to play, and be impressive, and the new harder edge that builds these great walls of sound that comprise the "greater than the sum of it's parts" new metal. My favorite tracks are "Beast and the Harlot", "Burn It Down" and "Bat Country", although they are all pretty sweet. Definetly worth it. This CD is off the hizzy!! (5 stars) The highly anticipated 3rd album from Avenged Sevenfold is just what it is expected to be: Awesome!!!! Jam packed with 11 songs all over 5 minutes, this makes for a great CD and a great buy. If you want a CD that offers addicting songs that you mind getting stuck in your head, then this is the CD for you. "Burn it Down", "Seize the Day" and "Strength of the World" all prove to be just that. I have owned this CD BiographyFormed: 1999 in Huntington Beach, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s The members of metalcore outfit Avenged Sevenfold (or A7X) were still attending high school in Huntington Beach, CA, when they formed their band in 1999. Nevertheless, it didn't take long for M. Shadows (vocals), Zacky Vengeance (guitar), Synyster Gates (guitar), the Reverend (drums), and Johnny Christ (bass) to make an impression with their aggressive hybrid of metal, hard rock, and punk-pop. The band made its official debut in July 2001, releasing Sounding the Seventh Trumpet on the Good Life label...
