Christmas In the Heart – Bob DylanView More By Bob Dylan Our ReviewSure, Bob Dylan’s a folk hero, a man interested in songs that stand the test of time. Over the years, he’s become quite enamored with his backing band, who can recreate the pre-rock ‘n’ roll-era roadhouse blues without a pause. So in 2009, with a voice made of sandpaper, Bob Dylan can be a crooner of tunes such as “Do You Hear What I Hear?,” “O’ Come All Ye Faithful (Adeste Fideles)” and “Silver Bells” and croon as peculiarly as he’s been known to sing, with notes disappearing, phrases rephrased and a ton of personal joy tucked in the performance. Only Dylan would sound like he’s clearing his throat at the onset of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Backing singers, a prominent element on records from Bob’s childhood, chase him down the holiday aisles. This won’t be everyone’s idea of a holiday item, but for Dylan fans, accustomed to the bard’s unusual turns of inspiration, Christmas In the Heart is one more way-out gift from an American treasure.. Customer ReviewsOh my god. I want to kill myself (1 star)Just bad. So bad. So terrible. So not Xmas. What In gods name did they think this sounded like. This would make any kid or adult scream in pain to listen to. I'm saving it for holloween. Something's Happening And You Don't Know What It Is. Do you, Mr. Jones? (5 stars) If you don't like it, then you simply don't get it! Dylan is a genius. He has done this his whole career. He takes a genre, turns it upside down, people get upset and say "it's terrible!", yet in time....his greatness is eventually recognized (ie. Hall of Fame inductions, Kennedy Center Award, Pulitzer Prize to name a few). He has done this with folk, rock, country, gospel...and each time people get upset and don't like it. Big Dylan Fan, This is horrible. (1 star) I am all about artists wanting to change their style, showing versatility and being more artistic. This album concept sounds more like a drunken night in the studio and it was then recorded and released. I think I have found the best white elephant gift for the holiday season. Dylan is a musical genius and he is an icon. This album just proves that everyone makes a bad one now and then. Just terrible. BiographyBorn: May 24, 1941 in Duluth, MNGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Bob Dylan's influence on popular music is incalculable. As a songwriter, he pioneered several different schools of pop songwriting, from confessional singer/songwriter to winding, hallucinatory, stream-of-consciousness narratives. As a vocalist, he broke down the notion that a singer must have a conventionally good voice in order to perform, thereby redefining the vocalist's role in popular music. As a musician, he sparked several genres of pop music, including electrified folk-rock and country-rock....
