Bruce Springsteen: Greatest Hits – Bruce SpringsteenView More By Bruce Springsteen Our ReviewNarrowing down the sprawling, ambitious career of Bruce Springsteen to one single collection of ‘Hits’ is a daunting task. Everything he does is larger than life. His shows are known for their marathon lengths and many of his most beloved songs are extended workouts, and while fanatics will certainly suggest many of his beloved studio albums, there’s no harm for those with a casual interest starting here. Though one doesn’t necessarily think of Bruce Springsteen as a singles artist he has written many enduring hits. “Born to Run,” “Hungry Heart,” “Dancing in the Dark,” “Glory Days,” “Brilliant Disguise,” and “Streets of Philadelphia” are among the man’s most accessible songs and offer a glimpse at the deep artistry he brings to his songwriting craft. “Thunder Road” and “The River” represent Springsteen’s peerless narrative gift, serving not just as songs but as short stories set to music. Even with the “Greatest Hits” format, Springsteen couldn’t be tamed. He included four previously unreleased tracks, including the hard rocking “Murder Incorporated” and the pensive ballad “Secret Garden” that was also featured in the film Jerry Maguire.. Customer ReviewsNot Essential Springsteen (1 star)I love Bruce Springsteen's music but this collection doesn't do his career justice. This album may feature 18 of his highest charting singles but does not have his best songs or any true fan favorites; and at the end of the day, it's an artist's most passionate, best work that becomes rememebered best. This could be an enjoyable album for an audience weened on adult contemporary music. But Springsteen's essential work has imense amounts of p this turned me into a springsteen fan (5 stars) This is the PERFECT introduction if you want to really "get into" Bruce Springsteen, it should be called Bruce 101. It was the first step in my journey from an absolute newbie into a diehard who eventually bought most of his albums & DVDs and attends his concerts. If you're new to Bruce and are considering this versus The Essential Bruce Springsteen, DEFINITELY pick this one. The Essential is way too long, cut and dry. It t Ah-may-ZING! (5 stars) I love The Boss. saw him in concert with my dad and a couple friends. It was mindblowing. I'd recommend it even to alternative fans like me.
