Bob Marley & The Wailers: Gold – Bob MarleyView More By Bob Marley Our ReviewObviously, the measure of any Bob Marley collection is Legend. While there is always more Marley to enjoy, can any compilation of hits match the eloquence or popularity of the original Marley best-of? Gold is nearly twice its size, but none of the songs it adds are less than essential. Most crucially, Gold embellishes the aspect of Marley’s career often overlooked by listeners who only go by Legend. Specifically, it balances his unparalleled talent for crossover songwriting with his devotion to ghetto reggae in its deepest darkest form. “Burnin’ and Lootin’,” “Positive Vibration,” and “Crazy Baldhead” may not be the songs that won Marley the attention of the global pop audience, but they are the songs that spoke to the Kingston dancehalls. If there can be one criticism of Legend, it is that it too easily glosses over that aspect of Marley’s art. Thankfully, Gold accords that material equal space, and thereby offers the casual Marley fan a more spiritually and sonically accurate portrayal of the man’s art.. Customer ReviewsGreat Bob-Starter (5 stars)I have every Bob Marley album and love all of his stuff and if I was introducing Bob Marley's music to someone I would definetly recommend this CD. It is most of his best songs wrapped into one CD. Legend used to be the good nutshell-Bob but this beat it. If you are just getting into Bob or just like him enough for one or two CDs, get this. The best 2-CD compilation of Bob Marley I have seen yet. -Taylor Legend's replacement....? (5 stars) I would have to agree with (...ahem) Demboyswashuge. For many years Legend was the best way for a Marley-newb to get acquainted with some of the Wailers' greatest hits, but this has pretty much all of the tracks from Legend with much, much more. I was never a fan of the "20th Century Remaster" greatest hits collections because they usually only had about 12 songs, but the new "Gold" series of greatest hits albums, which Best Marley collection out there (5 stars) This is really the best Bob Marley collection I've found, and the best deal. The songs are also better quality than many of the other collections I've heard. What I did was buy this album and the song "Three Little Birds" separately cuz that's the one song I thought this album was really lacking. BiographyGenre: ReggaeYears Active: '60s, '70s, '80s For marketing purposes, Bob Marley, the Wailers, and Bob Marley & the Wailers have become interchangeable names, used indiscriminately to refer to recordings actually made by separate entities. So, it is worth recalling the distinctions that existed at the times these entities performed and recorded. The Wailers, formed in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1963, was a vocal group consisting of Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, Bunny Livingston, Bob Marley, Peter McIntosh, and Cherry Smith; they were called...
