Black and White America (Deluxe Version) – Lenny KravitzView More By Lenny Kravitz Our ReviewLenny Kravitz is rock music’s great synthesizer of styles. He evokes an era of peace and love but he does so with modern sounds that don’t settle for simple retro. Now, a melody as powerpop as “In the Black” carries shades of the early 1970s, but there’s also a modern bite attached. The title track throws some ‘70s-styled funk into a tune that’s less overtly political than its title might suggest. “Come On Get It” and “Superlove” modernize the funk attack. “Rock Star City Life” is the kind of celebrity motif fans have come to expect from the man who openly idolizes Prince, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon. Kravitz demands his sound be big. He teams up with Jay-Z and DJ Military for the hip-hop driven “Boogie Drop,” while his own “Stand” (not the Sly Stone tune) heats up over a thick synth riff. “Everything” toughens up the guitars for a Stones-like romp. “I Can’t Be Without You” has a lite-FM touch. The Deluxe Edition includes the falsetto-led, techno-layered bonus cut “War,” an acoustic version of the title track and videos for “Stand” and the live version of the title track.. Customer ReviewsFinally (5 stars)Wake up America and listen to some good peaceful music for once. Great job Lenny YES!!! (5 stars) It is sad when you are down to your last few dollars and you still are in deep, deep debating about buying new tune anyway. This brand new album is a must, if you like rock. Lenny never disappoints. Just when I thought there may be a slowing up of new music Lenny Kravitz comes through. Tunes that caught my ear: "Super Love", "Black and White America", "In the Black", "Liquid Jesus", "Come On And G Honest Critique (1 star) Sorry but Lenny this is garbage. No concise message, just a bunch of perfunctory outdated messages about nothing. This is my honest critique, you didn't ask for it but I give it with the hopes that you find a voice. You have too much talent to fall victim to a time line. Please find yourself so that we can find you…. I don't know what you are saying nor do I know where you are headed. With two unknowns I fail to understand the m BiographyBorn: May 26, 1964 in New York, NYGenre: Rock Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s There may have been other "retro" rock acts before him, but Lenny Kravitz was one of the first to not be pigeonholed to a single style as he touched upon such genres as soul, funk, reggae, hard rock, psychedelic, folk, and ballads over the years. Born in New York on May 26, 1964 (his mother was actress Roxie Roker, best-known for her role as Helen Willis on the popular TV series The Jeffersons, and his father was a TV producer), Kravitz was raised in Los Angeles, where he found himself around countless...
