Bingo! – Steve Miller BandView More By Steve Miller Band Our ReviewIn the late ‘60s, Steve Miller was a serious psychedelic bluesman. In the ‘70s, he turned into the FM radio hit machine that gave us “Take the Money and Run,” “Fly Like An Eagle,” “The Joker” and “Jet Airliner.” The ‘80s had more hits, but the synths started to drag Miller down and he’s laid low these past two decades. He re-emerges in 2010 with Bingo!, a collection of blues covers that shows where Miller’s real love resides. Vocalist Sonny Charles guests with a streetwise taunt for the Otis Redding and Carla Thomas classic “Tramp,” but Miller and his guitar take center stage for much of this bluesing around. B.B. King’s “Rock Me Baby” is given a serious workout and tracks such as “Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)” and “You Got Me Dizzy” create a pretty weird sensation, since Miller’s vocals still sound exactly like the man who once sang about “Jungle Love.” The bonus tracks on the special edition continue down the blues path with highlights like “Ain’t That Lovin’ You Baby” and “Further On Up the Road.”. Customer ReviewsSo-So effort (3 stars)It's always good to see Steve Miller return to his blues roots. There's some enjoyable stuff here. But as with the music he's done starting with Fly Like An Eagle up to this effort (that's about 35 years worth), it's overly slick and overproduced. I wish he'd get back to the grittier sound he had in the 60s with LPs like Brave New World and songs like Livin' In the USA. That's Steve Miller at his best. heard them in concert last night with peter frampton..great swamp rock. (5 stars) heard them in concert last night with peter frampton..great swamp rock. Makes me smile (5 stars) Some great blues on this album, and great guests including the late Norton Buffalo. Get the CD with the bonus tracks, though. It is well worth it! BiographyFormed: 1966 in San Francisco, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Steve Miller's career has encompassed two distinct stages: one of the top San Francisco blues-rockers during the late '60s and early '70s, and one of the top-selling pop/rock acts of the mid- to late '70s and early '80s with hits like "The Joker," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Rock'n Me," and "Abracadabra." Miller was turned on to music by his father, who worked as a pathologist but knew stars like Charles Mingus and Les Paul, whom he brought home as guests; Paul taught the young Miller some guitar chords...
