Any Man In America – Blue OctoberView More By Blue October Our ReviewDivorce songs aren’t just limited to country music. Blue October’s sixth studio album finds frontman Justin Furstenfeld musing on a split with his wife and the custody battle for his daughter (that’s her artwork gracing the album cover). Needless to say, Any Man In America is an incredibly melancholy and dramatic album. Most songs here retrace the steps leading up to the split in excruciating detail. “The Feel Again (Stay)” opens with light piano notes building into a ballad where Furstenfeld’s lyrics try to make sense of what just happened while begging his ex-wife to stay. “For the Love” addresses the difficulty of trying to raise a child in two different households. Standout track “The Chills” is a catchy emotional rocker with a fevered vocal performance that spews gripping lyrics describing the goose bumps and cold flashes experienced before suffering a breakdown.. Customer ReviewsA let down :( (3 stars)It kills me to say this, cause I am a HUGE Blue October fan, but this new release just isn't doing it for me. There is still some great songs, great lyrics, and some angst (the song Any Man in America I can COMPLETELY relate to) that you can come to expect from Blue October, but I just don't think this CD holds a flame to other BO CDs. The rapping in a few songs is kind of weird, and overall the whole CD is kind of slow. There are some BO so Heartbreaking (5 stars) After seeing Justin get gradually happier from album to album, it is heartbreaking to see how hurt and messed up he has gotten in the past two years....a divorce, a custody battle....rough stuff. However, he and the band translate that pain and sadness into absolutely amazing music.....AGAIN. Damned if you do... (5 stars) I'm seeing quite a few negative reviews on here that leave me scratching my head. All of those negative reviews complain about how Blue October has "abandoned" their sound. What? When has Blue October had a "sound"? They consistently keep their music fresh and interesting by changing things up a bit. The consistency that the band displays is in the quality of the music that they're trying on. How boring would life b BiographyFormed: 1996 in Houston, TXGenre: Alternative Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s The Texas quintet Blue October formed during the post-grunge boom of the mid-'90s, when vocalist/guitarist Justin Furstenfeld began penning angst-ridden rock songs with the help of his brother, drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, and violinist Ryan Delahoussaye. Bassist Matt Noveskey and lead guitarist Brant Coulter completed the band's initial lineup, and Blue October released an independent debut album, The Answers, in 1998. The band's emotive brand of post-grunge led to...
