A Farewell to Kings – RushView More By Rush Our ReviewWith 1977's A Farewell to Kings, Rush continued its pursuit of sonically and compositionally complex hard and progressive rock, setting the performance standard for all hard rock bands to emulate, on the way becoming one of the most distinctive groups of the ‘70s. The title track begins with a gentle acoustic guitar and synthesizer overture before breaking out into one of the band's trademark explosions. Drummer Neil Peart never met a time signature he couldn't twist to his own desires and with his heavy rhythmic hand the band erupts into epic splendor. "Closer to the Heart" is the closest the band had come to a conventional pop song in a few years and nicely counterbalances the conceptual ambitions of the ten-minute album closer "Cygnus X-1" and the eleven-minute tour-de-force "Xanadu." "Madrigal" spotlights the band's lesser-explored softer side, whereas "Cinderella Man" pushes forth the band's aggression. The Canadian trio managed to be both obscure and accessible, pulling in an ardent following despite its unusual and unconventional approach.. Customer ReviewsWelcome The Kings (5 stars)Rush, one of the many incredible bands to emerge in the 1970s, by the time of A FAREWELL TO KINGS, Rush had released 4 albums (not counting live albums): Rush, A Caress of Steel, Fly By Night, and 2112. This was the most incredible Rush album to that date (and my personal favorite), by now Rush had fully developed their song writing. The album ranged from the medieval entrance and powerful end of Farewell to Kings; from the fast and slow Xan One of The Essentials (5 stars) If there was a Rush Essential Albums thing on iTunes this would be on there for sure. The songs are very crafty and they have a lot of power and punch to them. I love Madrigal thats a great song. All The songs on here are great. Farewell To Kings- Intense lyrics and great music Xanadu- Long but awesome maybe the best song on the album Closer To The Heart-Probably what most people think when they think of this album Cinderella Man-One of G Kings (5 stars) Xanadu and Cygnus alone are worth the price of admission not to mention the title track. pick it up you will love it.
