Give Till It's Gone – Ben HarperView More By Ben Harper Our ReviewBen Harper turns up the rock ‘n’ roll for 2011’s Give Till It’s Gone. Harper’s always offered a varied approach where he stars as the laid-back leader that can roll with the punches, but here he sounds like he’s lit a fire under his band, Relentless7. There’s an honest, quick energy to “Don’t Give Up On Me Now,” “Clearly Severely” and “Rock N’ Roll Is Free,” where the band doesn’t overthink the situation. “Feel Love” is a sweet ballad that allows Harper to reach the top of his range. Ringo Starr guests on two tracks, the Beatles-influenced psychedelia of “Spilling Faith” and the instrumental, “Get There from Here” that sounds like it was recorded during the Magical Mystery Tour sessions. Harper’s more expected compatriot Jackson Browne joins him for the touching ballad, “Pray That Our Love Sees the Dawn.” “Waiting On a Sign” has the laidback rock groove that most people associate with Harper. “Do It for You, Do It for Us” sounds like a classic-rock staple from the ‘70s.. Customer ReviewsBen? Is that you? (3 stars)Give the innocent criminals a call. Maybe they'll have you back. Although this album is a step in the right direction from the Resistable 7. Well... (3 stars) I don't know how this album can give till it's gone if there was nothing special to give in the first place. His weakest CD yet (2 stars) I've been a big fan of Ben's music for a long time, but this CD is a disapointment. He seems to be on a bit of a slide since Lifeline came out really. I liked Relentless 7, but...there's been a lot of mediocre work otherwise. Rock and Roll is Free is a good tune, The opening track is interesting. Waiting on a Sign is another good track (sounds like Ben from Diamonds on the Inside), but the rest is forgetful, and not very good. I like m BiographyBorn: October 28, 1969 in Claremont, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s Combining funky, groove-laden soul with handcrafted acoustic folk-rock, Ben Harper enjoyed cult status during the course of the '90s before gaining wider attention toward the decade's end. As a young artist, he drew his influences from classic singer/songwriters, blues revivalists, guitar slingers, and jam bands like Blues Traveler and Phish, which meant he was embraced by critics and college kids alike. Despite finding commercial success with the radio single "Steal My Kisses" in 2000, Harper continued...
