The Essential Clash – The ClashView More By The Clash Our ReviewBetween two discs and 40 tracks, The Essential Clash has more than enough room to show the extraordinary development of this quartet over its five short years together. In terms of their consistent progress, their experimentation with various styles and genres, and the equalized chemistry among four bandmates, the Clash are rivaled only by the Beatles. One could go so far as to argue that the Clash accomplished in five years what the Beatles did in ten. They grew from one of London’s most passionate and gritty punk bands (“White Riot,” “Clash City Rockers,” “Garageland”) to avatars of rock style (“White Man In Hammersmith Palais,” “London Calling,” “Train In Vain”). They chartered unknown courses (“Bankrobber,” “The Magnificent Seven,” “This Is Radio Clash”) and finally became chart toppers and elder statesmen (“Rock the Casbah,” “Straight To Hell,” “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”). The Essential Clash provides an impressive balance between the band’s five original releases, but just as important as the individual songs is the overall scope, and success, of their mission.. Customer ReviewsGreat List of Songs (5 stars)Of course, if you really love them, and want to really hear them, buy all of their albums. For the rest of you, this is a great album with all the hits and then some. Not Very Essential (4 stars) Sure, I love the Clash. I bought every single album. But these songs aren't their best at all tbh. If you want a good recommendation on what to buy, get the whole London's Calling album. It's statistically the best album on the charts in England as well as the US. Where is Lover's Rock? Where is Spanish Bombs, The Right Profile, I'm Not Down? They missed out on some of my best songs. Get London's Calling, you'll be hungry for more very qui The Essential Clash is essential (5 stars) The Essential Clash is great, I bought it last week and thoroughly enjoy listening to it on my iPod, I don’t regret buying it one bit and neither will you. It is defiantly worth the money. Songs like “Rock The Casbah”, London Calling”, and “The Guns Of Brixton” are essential for any punk rock fan! BiographyFormed: 1976 in London, EnglandGenre: Rock Years Active: '70s, '80s The Sex Pistols may have been the first British punk rock band, but the Clash were the definitive British punk rockers. Where the Pistols were nihilistic, the Clash were fiery and idealistic, charged with righteousness and a leftist political ideology. From the outset, the band was more musically adventurous, expanding its hard rock & roll with reggae, dub, and rockabilly among other roots musics. Furthermore, they were blessed with two exceptional songwriters in Joe Strummer and Mick Jones,...
