Styx: Greatest Hits – StyxView More By Styx Our ReviewAt their best, Styx combined a sweeping sense of melodrama with a grasp of meat-and-potatoes Midwestern rock. This Chicago combo connected with a huge audience in the late ‘70s, whipping up shimmering prog-rock confections that appealed to AM radio listeners and album-oriented fans alike. With Dennis DeYoung’s piercing falsetto and stirring keyboards upfront, the quintet combined the theatrical flourishes of Queen with the rich sonic layering of the Electric Light Orchestra. “Lady,” “Come Sail Away,” “Lorelei,” and the chart-topping “Babe” are lofty expressions of love built upon glimmering towers of sound. As their career progressed, Styx made forays into social commentary with “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)” and incorporated techno-pop elements into their music with “Too Much Time on My Hands.” Augmented by Tommy Shaw’s bracing lead guitar, DeYoung brought an operatic urgency to showpieces like “Mr. Roboto” and Renegade.” After an initial break-up, the band returned to score hits in the ‘90s, most notably the yearning “Show Me the Way.” Ambitious, bombastic and romantic to their core, Styx offer their best moments in these tracks.. Customer ReviewsStyx Greatest Hits (5 stars)For anyone who grew up in the midwest (and especially a North Chicago suburb) in the 70s and 80s - or for anyone who wants to try to understand us - this album is a must have. Before the changes that broke up the original members, Styx music defined life as we knew it. Everything that happened in our lives had a Styx song associated with it. 'Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime...' thanks for so many awesome memories. Even now I s Wow (5 stars) There's no doubt that this is the best group of Styx songs ever. From their more undiscovered classics like "Crystal Ball" and "Suite Madame Blue" to the ever popular "Mr. Roboto" or "The Grand Illusion" this album has got it all. Quality of sound is excellent and overall, I could listen to this album non stop...What a great buy Great album! (5 stars) This is a really good album - probably the best Styx compilation that I know of. If you don't want the whole album, for whatever reason, my top recommendations are "Lorelei," "Too Much Time On My Hands," "Renegade," "Come Sail Away," "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)," and "Miss America." But remember that just about all the songs on here are very good and you will not regret purchasin BiographyFormed: 1970 in Chicago, ILGenre: Rock Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Although they began as an artsy prog rock band, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late '70s and early '80s, due to a fondness for bombastic rockers and soaring power ballads. The seeds for the band were planted in another Chicago band during the late '60s, the Tradewinds, which featured brothers Chuck and John Panozzo (who played bass and drums, respectively), as well as acquaintance Dennis DeYoung (vocals, keyboards). By the dawn of the '70s, the group...
