Mind Games (Remastered) – John LennonView More By John Lennon Our ReviewJohn Lennon’s solo career can be seen as a yin and yang of action and reaction. Just as Imagine softened the harsh blows of the previous album (Plastic Ono Band), Mind Games seeks to blunt the bloody impact of the politically charged double LP Some Time in New York City. From Mind Games’ opening chords and orchestration, it’s immediately obvious that Lennon entered the recording studio to record music, not political rhetoric. His worldview is still present, but more importantly it’s led and crafted by his musical instincts. While those instincts are in shorter supply than on his first two solo albums, he still comes up with several worthwhile gems. The title track is lush to disguise the pain, while soul-searching numbers such as “Out of the Blue” and “One Day (At a Time)” sit neatly next to Lennon’s typically tongue-in-cheek rockers, “Meat City” and “Tight As.” “Intuition” is a sturdy minor tune, while “Bring on the Lucie (Freeda People)” and the nonexistent “Nutopian International Anthem” (clocking in as silence) show Lennon hadn’t lost his sense of humor.. Customer ReviewsNutopian International Anthem...Really? (4 stars)WTF? ITunes has the gall to charge $1.29 for a 4 SECOND LONG song? LOL Love it A 3-Second Song?!?!?! (5 stars) They charge $1.29 for THREE SECONDS OF SILENCE?!?!?! ...Oh, well, just goes to show what a pig iTunes is. Take A Moment And Consider This.... (4 stars) Though I wouldn't bother purchasing it, one might consider the fact that the silence of 'Nutopian International Anthem' is actually quite a loud statement. Being somewhat familiar with some of John Lennon's philosophical viewpoints, I suspect it indeed was very intentional. Rather than complain about the price or the absence of outside auditory stimulis, take a brief moment to appreciate the significance and the meaning of it. Afterall - No BiographyBorn: October 09, 1940 in Liverpool, EnglandGenre: Rock Years Active: '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s Out of all the Beatles, John Lennon had the most interesting — and frustrating — solo career. Lennon was capable of inspired, brutally honest confessional songwriting and melodic songcraft; he also had a tendency to rest on his laurels, churning out straight-ahead rock & roll without much care. But the extremes, both in his music and his life, were what made him fascinating. Where Paul McCartney was content to be a rock star, Lennon dabbled in everything from revolutionary politics...
