Raise!! – Earth, Wind & FireView More By Earth, Wind & Fire Our ReviewEarth, Wind & Fire had persevered through several stages of R&B evolution: from jazz to sweet soul, from sweet soul to funk, from funk to disco. And with 1981’s Raise!! they once again made an effortless adaption from disco to the snappy boogie of modern R&B. It’s amazing that after 15 years EW&F could till compete with up-and-coming innovators like Rick James and Prince, but songs like “Let’s Groove” and “Lady Sun” don’t just hold their own, they excel. “My Love” is red-hued and sultry, but it still emanates the light and optimism that has always been at the core of this band. As always, the band’s affirmative consciousness comes through, especially on “You Are a Winner.” Even though the album is not quite as adventurous or consistent as the band’s triumphal masterpieces, “The Changing Times,” “I’ve Had Enough” and “Evolution Orange” prove that the band could still walk the walk and talk the talk with the younger generation.. While I still maintain the opinion that EWF's albums "That's the Way of the World" through "I Am" represent a p Raise! (5 stars) Let's Groove is an awesome song. Great Album. Conceived by drummer, bandleader, songwriter, kalimba player, and occasional vocalist Maurice White, EWF's all-encompassing musical vision used funk as its foundation, but also incorporated jazz, smooth soul, gospel, pop, rock & roll, psychedelia, blues, folk, African music, and, later on, disco. Lead singer Philip Bailey gave EWF an extra dimension with his...
