The Rising Tied (Deluxe Version) – Fort MinorView More By Fort Minor Our ReviewThe Rising Tied is the debut effort from Fort Minor, the side project from Linkin Park leader Mike Shinoda. Shinoda intended the album as an outlet for his interest in hip-hop, which couldn’t always be adequately expressed within Linkin Park. Working with Jay-Z on 2004’s Collision Course album gave Shinoda the perfect in to pursue Fort Minor, which Jay-Z executive-produced. While Sean Carter himself doesn’t make an appearance, many heavy hitters do, including Common, John Legend and Black Thought. “Petrified,” “Kenji” and “Slip Out the Back” touch on the volcanic emotion of Linkin Park, but the best songs on The Rising Tied are the collaborations with underground rap crew Styles of Beyond, personal friends of Shinoda’s from way back. “Feel Like Home,” “Back Home” and “Believe Me” hold hip-hop bounce, hard-rock intensity, and storytelling virtuosity in easy balance. However, the song that best defines Shinoda’s aesthetic is “Right Now” where over a tensely layered beat Shinoda sketches a panoramic view of struggle and worry that extends from the inner-city projects to the suburbs and onto the battlefields of Iraq.. Customer ReviewsSomone finally got rap right. (5 stars)I have never been a rap fan in my life, but I'll tell anyone I can about this album. I still have a hard time believing this IS rap because of its content. While _some_ language might not be suitable for all ages, this is finally an album where I don't have to hear about non-existant gang wars, drugs, and "skeet." Head-bopping beats with a message that's finally worth listening to. Sweet. An Album To Live By... (5 stars) Finally! The Rising Tied has it the shores! This long awaited album was worth the wait. Yes, this is pure hip-hop, but it's not like generic, main stream hip-hop. The beats are smooth, and for me personally, a little soothing. With sinister stings, sweeping guitar riffs, deep bass lines, and beautiful piano, makes it seem like this album single handedly turns rap into real, man made music, not so much computer generated. And not only is the Classic, but the booklet is corrupted!!! (5 stars) I've been listening to this record non-stop for the last 10 days... It is THAT sick. Seriously... Non-stop. How disappointing it was to see that there was an interactive digital booklet, but it downloads as a corrupted file!!! What can a kid do? I downloaded it specifically for the booklet, now i don't have it! BiographyGenre: Hip Hop/RapYears Active: '00s In November 2005, Linkin Park co-founder Mike Shinoda debuted as a solo artist with Rising Tied, an ambitious collection credited to his alter ego, Fort Minor, that blended hip-hop with electronics and rock elements. The set was exec-produced by Jay-Z, who had previously collaborated with Shinoda and Linkin Park on 2004's Collision Course. Tied also featured plenty of guests like Common and John Legend, as well as newer artists from Shinoda's Machine Shop imprint. The album was a labor of love for...
