Mirage – Fleetwood MacView More By Fleetwood Mac Our ReviewAfter taking more than a year off for some much-needed rest following the world tour in support of 1979’s Tusk, Fleetwood Mac recorded 1982’s Mirage in the decadence of Château d'Hérouville near Paris. Whereas Tusk was a deliberate departure from the preceding masterpiece Rumors, the slickly produced Mirage was an attempt to bring Fleetwood Mac's fans more hits on par with the likes of “Go Your Own Way,” “Don’t Stop,” “Dreams,” and “You Make Loving Fun.” Mirage definitely delivered some stellar singles, starting with the seductive sway of “Hold Me.” Penned by Christine McVie (along with the opening “Love in Store”), it hinted at how her songwriting prowess would blossom and save 1987’s Tango in the Night amid the band’s dissolve. After digging through her song stash, Stevie Nicks offered the catchy “Gypsy.” (She'd written it in 1979 for her debut solo album, Bella Donna, but left it off when the song’s muse died of leukemia.) Lindsey Buckingham borrowed melodies from Nicks’ “Wild Heart” for “Can’t Go Back.”. Customer ReviewsMirage (4 stars)With the two big hits "Gypsy" and "Hold Me" this album was already considered good but there are many hidden gems on here like "Straight Back" and "Only Over You". Fleetwood Mac - Mirage (3 stars) Any album as emotionally potent, experimental and draining as "Tusk" is bound to be a hard act to follow, but "Mirage" stands as a testament to Fleetwood Mac's pop prowess. I've always felt that it's Stevie Nicks' and Christine McVie's songs that stand up the best on this album. "Gypsy" is a haunting tribute to Nicks' deceased best friend; "That's Alright" is a fantastic piece of country-pop; and I'll Lights Up The Night (4 stars) Mirage is a treasure of an album. It goes back to a more comercial sound than Tusk had. The band isn't as tight as a unite at this point though. Gypsy is the best song of the album, by far. It's one of Fleetwood Mac's greatest songs of all times. That's Alright is a country song, but that's alright! I don't consider myself a country song, but this is a great song. It wasn't a hit, but it might as well be just as good as Gypsy. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a decade. Throughout all of their incarnations, the only consistent members of Fleetwood Mac were drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie — the rhythm section that provided the band with its...
