Where it's at. This is the place to start if you're new to Ray Charles. It also has both parts 1 and 2 of "What'd I Say", an essential song for any serious music collection. It boggles my mind that Ray's greatest album, by common consensus, is so far down the list of his most popular albums. The problem is that there's so many fake record labels on Ray's page making crappy, low quality, half-assed collections of his songs that don'

Ray Charles was the musician most responsible for developing soul music. Singers like Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson also did a great deal to pioneer the form, but Charles did even more to devise a new form of black pop by merging '50s R&B with gospel-powered vocals, adding plenty of flavor from contemporary jazz, blues, and (in the '60s) country.
