Minute By Minute – The Doobie BrothersView More By The Doobie Brothers Our ReviewIt’s hard to overestimate the impact that the Doobie Brothers’ Minute By Minute (1978) had upon the pop music world of its time. It's the album that marks the Doobies’ blossoming into a sophisticated R&B-rock powerhouse, thanks largely to the recruitment of singer/songwriter/keyboardist Michael McDonald whose yearning vocals and feel for intricately-woven rhythms made “What A Fool Believes” into a Number One single in early 1979. McDonald’s other contributions to Minute By Minute — most notably “Here To Love You,” “Open Your Eyes” and the elegantly jazzy title track — display a similar mastery of the easy-flowing groove and his fellow Brothers shine on these tracks as well. Patrick Simmons rocks convincingly on “Don’t Stop To Watch The Wheels” and reasserts his finger-picking prowess on “Steamer Land Breakdown.” Jeff “Skunk” Baxter’s scorching lead guitar and Tiran Porter’s firm-yet-funky bass lines are likewise crucial to the sound. For all the impeccable musicianship displayed here, it’s the strength of the hook-laden tunes that accounts for the album’s enormous success. Minute By Minute went on to receive platinum certification and multiple Grammy Awards.. Customer ReviewsMichael's Doobie Brothers (4 stars)As Michael McDonald joined the Doobies, he brought a new tone and new sound to this great band. His tremendous range and soothing/coo-ing voice lends itself to some of the best songs of their time. "What a Fool Believes" and "Minute By Minute" punctuate Michael's direction for the band with a classic sound and feel for music that invites the listener to sit back and enjoy complex melody and harmony blended together by o Timeless, tight, beautiful, classic (5 stars) When you buy a record at 16 years of age, you don't expect to be listening to it at 44. Minute by Minute holds up. Recorded during a tumultuous time within the band, the varied song genres reflect the schizophrenic nature of the Doobie Brothers by 1978. This band could play it all and play it well. And it's all displayed on Minute by Minute, blue-eyed soul, pop, hard rock, and country blue-grass. This album was Michael McDonald's tour d Doobie Snacks (5 stars) I've always liked the doobies.
