Perfectly Clear – JewelView More By Jewel Our ReviewTeaming up with producer John Rich of Big and Rich for her first foray into country music, modern day adult-contemporary folksinger Jewel easily makes the transition. Actually, it isn’t a transition so much as a matter of instrument choices. Rich adds slide guitar, fiddle, banjo and mandolin to Jewel’s usual arsenal of acoustic guitar and piano. Jewel tilts her delivery slightly towards country music inflections, but it’s mostly the back-up singers, the interjected instrumental hooks and the overall pacing of the tunes that signify country. “I Do” would be a straight-forward pop tune if not for its slide guitar solo. “Stronger Woman” delivers a self-empowerment anthem that’s one electric guitar shy of pop-rock. “Love is A Garden,” Two Become One,” and “Anyone But You” settle in for soft-rock with pianos leading Jewel down the contemplative path of pleasant love song platitudes. Jewel’s strengths have always been her melodies and her irony-free sincerity. And, yes, she gets her chance to use her legendary yodeling skills for “Loved By You (Cowboy Waltz).” Still not a complete country girl, but she’s on the range.. Customer Reviewsamazing. (5 stars)this is the most solid jewel album since "this way." bar none. "i do" is a mid-paced love song about whether you're willing to make the sacrifice to spend your life with someone. guess what? you are. "thump, thump" is about as beautiful and simple a love song as there gets. she said she wrote it for her boyfriend "because after 10 years, he still makes my heart go thump, thump." mmm. you finally get so One of Jewel's Best - A Gem on First Listen (5 stars) I have been a fan of Jewel, since just after her coffee house days, and I have seen her in concert over a dozen times. "Perfectly Clear," is a stunningly gorgeous demonstration of Jewel's unique, fascinating storytelling. Furthermore, the sound is fantastic. I care very little for country music, but this album is fantastic and quickly rose to one be one of my favorite Jewel albums ever despite having only listened fully one time Lovely Jewel (5 stars) This CD sounds like classic Jewel, Folk runs right in with country, and If one knows anything about her history they should know that she comes from a family of musicians who did bluegrass, and yodeling. She has yodeled in ALOT of her old music...ppl just didn't pick up on it because it was to a rock/pop beat...but it worked didn't it? Please do not say the girl is out of her element, she can do anything...granted folk is a type of country, BiographyBorn: May 23, 1974 in Payson, UTGenre: Pop Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s As a story, Jewel’s origin is impossible to beat: on her way up, the singer/songwriter lived in a van on the West Coast, struggling to find an entrance to a career as a professional musician. This hardscrabble tale, only enhanced by her Alaskan upbringing, stood in direct contrast to the sweet, gentle hits “Who Will Save Your Soul,” “You Were Meant for Me,” and “Foolish Games” from her 1995 debut Pieces of You, songs that never suggested a tough background. Nevertheless, Jewel's sensitive side and...
