Big Dog Daddy – Toby KeithView More By Toby Keith Our ReviewToby Keith has been in business for nearly 15 years, and he’s now fully comfortable in his role as the self-styled “big dog daddy.” The title song and “Hit It” epitomize the singer’s outsized persona, but Keith does best when he blends his ferocious attitude with some old-fashioned twang, as on “Get My Drink On” and “Pump Jack.” A good part of Big Dog Daddy deals with nostalgia for a long- gone time and place. “White Rose” memorializes a legendary filling station that has fallen to concrete and plywood, while “Burnin’ Moonlight” outlines the night one young couple lost their virginity. In their own way, both songs address the loss of innocence. Over the course of the album it becomes clear that when the fervor of “The Angry American” cooled off, Keith found himself in a more subdued state of mind. With “Love Me If You Can” we find the singer attempting to scale back the jingoism of his most famous anthem: “I stand by my right to speak freely / But I worry 'bout what kids learn from TV / And before all the debatin' turns to angry words and hate / Sometimes we should just agree to disagree.”. Customer ReviewsThe "Big Dog" Doesn't Disappoint! (4 stars)From start to finish, "Big Dog Daddy" entertains and delights. This really is one of Toby's finest albums. Are you a fan of country rocker Toby? Well, he's got you covered with tracks "High Maintenance Woman," "Get My Drink On," "Big Dog Daddy" "Pump Jack" and "Hit It." I was never really a country fan, but more of a fan of the country, and after hearing the song "High Maitnance Woman" preformed on the patrioticly driven show i absolutely had to download the album because it seemed to be an all american work of art. Although this is probobly one of the only country albums in my library, i TK Does it again (5 stars) Very strong album from Toby Keith. I break this album down into two sections. (1) Great songs with heart, reflection and deep meaning Walk It Off / Love Me If You Can / I Know She Hung The Moon / Burnin' Moonlight/ White Rose and (2) the party songs that just make you smile and want to sing along Hit It / Big Dog Daddy / Get My Drink On / High Maintenance Woman / Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya / Pump Jack. That all changed in 2002 when he recorded "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)," a response to September 11 that became one of country's most highly charged political statements since Merle Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee." The media furor ensured that even...
