Gimme Back My Bullets (Remastered) – Lynyrd SkynyrdView More By Lynyrd Skynyrd Our ReviewAfter a momentous three-album run consisting of mounting fame, vast tours, and numerous line-up changes, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s star was starting to fade when Gimme Back My Bullets appeared in February of 1976. Though the times had changed, Ronnie Van Zant’s resolve had not. “Gimme Back My Bullets” (a double-entendre that referred to both Billboard chart terminology and the group’s love of firearms) was the band’s toughest, tightest song yet, and Van Zant’s opening salvo voiced Skynyrd’s determination. Gimme Back My Bullets didn’t tear up the charts the way Van Zant wanted it to, but that’s not to say it shouldn’t have. “Trust” and “I Got the Same Old Blues” were cut from the same cloth as the blistering title track, while “Every Mother’s Son” and “Roll Gypsy Roll” are sweet, in-the-pocket classic rock songs, custom made for blue skies and the open road. And while Skynyrd may have only been trying to recreate the feel of “Freebird” with “All I Can Do Is Write About It,” its humming fiddle and xylophone taps make for a loose country jam unique among the group’s many ballads.. BiographyFormed: 1965 in Jacksonville, FLGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Lynyrd Skynyrd was the definitive Southern rock band, fusing the overdriven power of blues-rock with a rebellious Southern image and a hard rock swagger. Skynyrd never relied on the jazzy improvisations of the Allman Brothers. Instead, they were a hard-living, hard-driving rock & roll band — they may have jammed endlessly on-stage, but their music remained firmly entrenched in blues, rock, and country. For many, Lynyrd Skynyrd's redneck image tended to obscure the songwriting skills of...
