Stevie Wonder: The Definitive Collection – Stevie WonderView More By Stevie Wonder Our ReviewHow to summarize a career with the scope of Stevie Wonder’s? His output is so deep and so consistent that it is impossible to cover all the bases within the confines of one compact disc. What is provided by The Definitive Collection over the course of its 21 tracks is a sense of Wonder’s restless, carefree creativity, and his determination to push forward the song forms of soul music. It begins with “Fingertips, Pt. 2 (Live)”— an instrumental workout so intense that it still exudes sweat more than 40 years after its birth — and continues through the fragile crooning of “My Cherie Amour,” the tough riffs of “Living for the City” and “Higher Ground,” the ebullient funk of “I Wish” and “Superstition,” and the blissful melodies of “I Just Called To Say I Love You.” As late as 1982’s “Master Blaster (Jammin’),” a luminous venture into Jamaican rhythms, Wonder was still staking new ground. Perhaps even more impressive than each individual song is the overarching joy that emanates from this collection. There are other artists who were as good for as long, but no one can rival Stevie Wonder for overflowing inspiration and unbridled happiness.. Customer ReviewsAn Essential Piece for the Serious Collector (5 stars)I almost hesitate to say it, but Stevie Wonder is - at least in my mind - every bit as much as a musical genius as the late Ray Charles. And he has certainly had as much of an impact on the musical world and society as Charles. A pioneer and artist, his music reflects the times - good and bad. Timely and timeless - Stevie Wonder's music is a neccessary part of any true music lover's library. Buy it for the fun of it, listen and learn t Amazing (5 stars) Not enough young kids listen to him. He touches everyones soal with music. No matter what. He is a gift from the musical heavens. I love Stevie 4 ever Wonderful songs (4 stars) Stevie Wonder is always underrated. He's a superb songwriter and this album highlights so much of his great stuff. I've always admired the eloquence of "You Haven't Done Nothin" and "Living for the City." And "My Cherie Amour" is simply one of the loveliest songs ever written. Blind virtually since birth, Wonder's heightened awareness of sound helped him create vibrant, colorful music teeming with life and ambition. Nearly everything he recorded bore the stamp of his sunny, joyous positivity; even when he addressed serious racial, social, and spiritual issues (which he did quite often in his prime), or sang about heartbreak and romantic uncertainty,...
