Women and Children First – Van HalenView More By Van Halen Our ReviewAs the southern California hard rock group lit up arenas and festivals with Eddie Van Halen’s guitar pyrotechnics and singer David Lee Roth’s outrageous posturing, the group’s albums grew increasingly experimental. VH still delivered the oversized riff (“Everybody Wants Some!”) and the immediately accessible single (“And the Cradle Will Rock…”) on their third studio album, but their take on the blues (“Fools,” “Take Your Whiskey Home,” “Could This Be Magic?”) and hard rock (“Romeo Delight,” “Loss of Control”) wasn’t a generic look at the standard touchstones, but a reinvention from the inside out. Eddie Van Halen’s lightning quick fretboard runs and ‘tapping’ solos made his reputation as a wunderkind, but far more subtle and powerful is how he arranges his parts around the much underrated rhythm section of bassist Michael Anthony and Eddie’s brother, drummer Alex. The grooves stomp like hard rock and then ease up like an R&B dance band. Throw in the irreverent ravings of their lead singer, who often sounds as if he’s loitering around a bus stop harassing innocent people, and you’ve got a surreal party mix of a band that can’t help but intrigue.. Customer ReviewsVH # 3 (5 stars)Van Halen 3 as i call is the last of there classic rock albums this record is terrific VH does it for the third time!!! (4 stars) this album is amazing! my favorite track is And The Cradle Will Rock! personally, if u aren't a huge VH fan, then just get track # 1, but if ur like me, a huge Vh fan, then get the entire album A Guitar Driven Proper Follow Up to Their Debut (5 stars) After the unevenness of "VHII", Eddie and company released "Women and Children First". This album returned them to their hard rocking roots. It doesn't get more intense than "Romeo Delight." Check out the killer bass line. "Fools" has an excellent blusey feel to it. "Everybody Wants Some" is full of attitude and roaring guitars. ""Loss of Control" is fast and furious. "Cou BiographyFormed: 1974 in Pasadena, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s With their 1978 eponymous debut, Van Halen simultaneously rewrote the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equaled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a metal singer to near-performance art...
