Vs. – Pearl JamView More By Pearl Jam Our ReviewWhile Nirvana was reaping the decidedly mixed, tragically short-lived blessings of massive mainstream success, Pearl Jam went about steadily building the '90s most consistently successful rock career. Their 1993 sophomore collection initially underscored the band's disdain for traditional music biz trappings (being released with no singles or videos to support it), yet still soared immediately to the top of the charts and went multi-platinum. The opening salvos of "Go" and "Animal" quickly thrash expectations that this will be but a continuation of the often arena-friendly charms of their debut, while singer Eddie Vedder wears his sociopolitical obsessions firmly on his sleeve on the anti-gun "Glorified G" and "Blood." Yet Pearl Jam also leavens the thrash with the forceful acoustic intrigues of "Daughter," an emotionally warmer side of the band that's also showcased on "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter In a Small Town" and the haunting, elegiac closer, "Indifference.". Glorified G is okay, but the anti-gun lyrics are what make it for me. Dissident is nice, Eddie really belts it here, his voic Why are there only 8 reviews????? (5 stars) This is my favorite pearl jam album ever...and if you don't get the whole thing make sure to get animal, daughter, dissident, rearviewmirror, elderly woman behind the counter in a small town (of course), and leash BiographyFormed: 1990 in Seattle, WAGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s Pearl Jam rose from the ashes of Mother Love Bone to become the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s. After Mother Love Bone's vocalist, Andrew Wood, overdosed on heroin in 1990, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament assembled a new band, bringing in Mike McCready on lead guitar and recording a demo with Soundgarden's Matt Cameron on drums. Thanks to future Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons, the demo found its way to a 25-year-old San Diego surfer named Eddie Vedder, who overdubbed...
