Destiny's Child – Destiny's ChildView More By Destiny's Child Our ReviewWhen Destiny’s Child’s debut was released in 1997, contemporary R&B was dominated by solo performers like Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey and Aaliyah. Aside from TLC, the slew of girl groups that had exploded in the early Nineties (En Vogue, SWV) had subsided, and there was a vacancy for the next female R&B superstars. Enter Destiny’s Child. Like much of the era’s R&B, the group’s debut album was deeply linked to hip-hop, and “No, No, No (Parts 1 and 2),” “Bridges,” and “With Me” fit easily alongside contemporaneous hits by Biggie and Jay-Z, while cameos from Wyclef Jean and Mater P strengthen the quartet’s ties to the rap world. No one in the group was older than 16 at the time of the recording, but the original lineup specialized in sultry jams. Songs like “Tell Me” and “Killing Time” give Toni Braxton a run for her money, but it is the beautiful “Second Nature”— built around a sample of “Make Me Say It Again Girl” by the Isley Brothers — that is the album’s most mesmerizing moment.. Customer ReviewsThe Memories (5 stars)This brings back so many memories for me. I remember asking my mom for $20 because I was going on a school field trip. The money was supposed to be used for food, drinks. My plan was to use it to buy this CD and that I did when we stopped at Wal-Mart. Yes, we stopped at Wal-mart on a school field trip LOL. I remember when we got back on the bus everyone was so anxious to hear it. Those were the days of the portable compact disc player. Of co Awesome (5 stars) This album is beautiful. DC at its best. It's so sad that the original Destiny's Child broke up :(. Though it doesn't have so many party bangers like the following albums, the girls really show their vocal strength and flow together very well. Since this is only the partial album, I would recommend buying it in a store, because you definitely want all of the songs. Finally! (4 stars) I loved their Debut! The Harmony is heavenly, but with two remixes included on only an 11 track CD... it was a little disappointing. However, it still made me a fan nearly 9 years ago! BiographyFormed: 1990 in Houston, TXGenre: R&B/Soul Years Active: '90s, '00s Destiny's Child rose to become one of the most popular female R&B groups of the late '90s, eventually rivaling even TLC in terms of blockbuster commercial success. Their accomplishments came in spite of several abrupt personnel changes, which were accompanied by heated, well-publicized feuds in the media and the courts. In fact, for a time, Destiny's Child were known for that drama just...
