Wildflower – Sheryl CrowView More By Sheryl Crow Our ReviewBy now Sheryl Crow has made enough albums, and earned so many millions of radio “impressions,” that her appeal and smarts could easily be taken for granted. Wildflower, though, is a twist on her L.A. studio rock – one that puts listeners on notice that she’s not about to go quietly. Don’t look at her less seriously because of unabashedly lighthearted hits like “Soak Up the Sun,” this album says; in fact, it’s a reminder that even her breakout single “All I Wanna Do” had a lot more than happy days on its mind. Like Aimee Mann, Crow’s music is rooted in ’70s sounds, and Wildflower reflects a downbeat, wondering tone in nearly every cut. At the same time, it’s also easy to hear vintage Fleetwood Mac, reminding us that pure pop can be escapist and challenging at the same time.. Customer ReviewsAnother Great Offering from One of our Greats (5 stars)Far be it from me to claim Sheryl Crow’s music is anything but derivative. Such a term, however, is not derogatory when an artist takes elements from various influences and synthesizes them into a new, poignant, and haunting creation. Wildflower succeeds at every level, fusing classic Crow elements with a newfound focus on vocals. This is not an album that gives itself away immediately; instead it repays frequent visits, and it will likely Love it, Took Awhile (4 stars) I love Sheryl! The Wildflowers CD, took me awhile to warm up too.... This CD is not in the typical Sheryl CD, this proves she is a talented songtress. This is a HUGE departure from C'mon C'mon. None the less, this is Sheryl at her best..... I recomend you give it a listen too! Fav's Always On Your Side, I Know Why, and I Don't Wanna Know In The Crow's Nest (5 stars) I really loved the country-rock mix in the songs. Sheryl Crow can pull it off with ease, which makes this album worth listening to. I especially liked how she is so poetic in the song "Good Is Good". Her lyrics are colorful, and so is her music and her voice. I'd suggest this album to Dolly Pardon and Lee Ann Womack fans. BiographyBorn: February 11, 1962 in Kennett, MOGenre: Pop Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Sheryl Crow's fresh, updated spin on classic roots rock made her one of the most popular mainstream rockers of the '90s. Her albums were loose and eclectic on the surface, yet were generally tied together by polished, professional songcraft. Crow's sunny, good-time rockers and world-weary ballads were radio staples for much of the '90s, and she was a perennial favorite at Grammy time. Although her songwriting style was firmly anchored to the rock tradition, she wasn't a slave to it — her free-associative,...
