In Time – The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003 – R.E.M.View More By R.E.M. Our ReviewR.E.M.’s association with Warner Bros. Records exemplifies the reasons the label was long regarded as a jewel in the rock world. The band was left to create adventurous work that moved against trends, ultimately convincing audiences to go their way with a series of multiplatinum sellers. In Time surveys 15 years in the group’s life, bringing together moments crystalline (“Losing My Religion,” whose gift of an old Southern idiom to wider consciousness retains its vitality), grinding (“What’s the Frequency Kenneth,” from the brilliant sonic left-turn Monster) and loopily affirmative (“Stand”). Sequenced with a revelatory flair (as when the empathetic anthem “Everybody Hurts” is followed by Reveal’s gorgeous Pet Sounds knockoff “At My Most Beautiful”), these are often defining slices of pop that were welcomed with surprise and love. Two previously unheard tracks complete the set.. Customer ReviewsAlmost Perfect! (4 stars)Yes, I admit, many of REM's "hits" are missing but the album would have too many songs to be workable. My biggest regret about this ablum is the random order in which the songs are but what can I say... I prefer by chronology. This album is hard to go wrong with and if you're a true REM fan at least download the three newish tracks "All the Right Friends," "Bad Day," and "Animal," which are all terrifi My Favorite Album ever (5 stars) How Could Any One Not Like this. There are so many great songs in this album. MAn On The Moon Bad Day All the way to reno Orange Crush Stand Everybody Hurts Nightswimming, and many more whats not to like about this amazing band best ever!!!!! (5 stars) i love this album! This has so many of my favorite R.E.M. songs, and it never gets old listening to. This is an absolute must for any R.E.M. fan. While there were a number of hardcore and punk bands in the U.S. during the early '80s, R.E.M. brought guitar pop back into the underground lexicon. Combining ringing guitar hooks with mumbled, cryptic lyrics and a D.I.Y. aesthetic borrowed from post-punk, the band simultaneously sounded traditional...
