Nebraska – Bruce SpringsteenView More By Bruce Springsteen Our ReviewBy the end of the opening song and title track on Springsteen's first solo acoustic album, Nebraska, we're blown way past glowing images of "broken heroes on a last-chance power drive." The protagonists here are dark, as is the mood; "Nebraska" attempts to explain serial killer Charles Starkweather's rampage from the first-person perspective:"I guess there's just a meanness in this world." Recorded on a four-track machine in Springsteen's kitchen, there are hints here of old country songs and the even older Irish ballads that presaged them. Bruce knows how to set a lyric like the class-conscious "Mansion on the Hill" in a lovely melody that's like something from the Chieftains' dreams. Nebraska is at once a startling addition to the rock and folk traditions, and an affirmation of them. Just ask Johnny Cash, who cut his own versions of "Johnny 99" and "Highway Patrolman.". Customer Reviewsa masterpiece of an album (5 stars)the perfect album to sit and listen to in the dark and chainsmoke to and let your mind wander.this is a dreary dark album and mostly an undiscovered gem in the bosses catalog.you feel like your in a movie when you hear it.its his finest work. All-time classic (5 stars) This is the only Springsteen album I own, and the only one I could want. This is America. This is firmly entrenched in the canon of great American art. Everyone from film-makers to poets have been inspired by the stories found here. Recorded in a motel room one night on a 4-track. Raw and real and timeless. If you think you're a fan of American music, of any ilk, but you don't own this record, get with it. Fast. The Best Songwriting of Springsteen's Life (5 stars) Each song is a vignette. Each story is so real you can taste it. A set of earbuds or headphones are the perfect venue for this intimate album. This set of songs would make BITUSA possible and would splinter his professional career into the "Band" and "Bruce" albums -each with remarkably different results. This is Reagan's America and a rebuff t the myths of conservatism. "The 1950s were better." - ask Carol BiographyBorn: September 23, 1949 in Freehold, NJGenre: Rock Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s In the decades following his emergence on the national scene in 1975, Bruce Springsteen proved to be that rarity among popular musicians, an artist who maintained his status as a frontline recording and performing star, consistently selling millions of albums and selling out arenas and stadiums around the world year after year, as well as retaining widespread critical approbation, with ecstatic reviews greeting those discs and shows. Although there were a few speed bumps along the way in Springsteen's...
