Rocket Man – Number Ones – Elton JohnView More By Elton John Our ReviewA dozen Number One singles from various U.S. and UK charts, plus five more hits, and voila! Rocket Man is a tightly packed album that spends most of its long playing time demonstrating why Elton John ruled the school in the ’70s. Voraciously musical, he won with snarky ballads (“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”), titanic mock-rock (“Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”), soul pastiches (“Philadelphia Freedom”) and a surprisingly wonderful re-imagining of a Beatles classic (“Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”). He further globalized his stature with the Lion King centerpiece “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” which will haunt the ear canals of at least a couple of generations of children. Exposed to most any of the other singles collected here, they’d no doubt find more reasons to love the guy.. Customer ReviewsI like all the deep cuts better (3 stars)If you really like Elton John Then you know that the so called hits (like this list of songs) is not always the best songs on the LP. Take Tiny Dancer for instance, Good tune, but not the best tune on Madman Across The Water. Daniel and Crocodile Rock not the best tunes on Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player, And the LP Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is loaded with great tunes not represented on this CD. Point is if you want to get into El Great Complation (5 stars) This guy is one of the artist I really want to see, he is still great even though he is sixty years old. Every song is great, he does a great live show and this album shows it with Bennie and the Jets his cover of LSD is great, not as good as the Beatles, but iTunes won't let its uses get Beatles tracks. This is by far the best complation of all of Sir Elton John's best songs. R.I.P. Brad Delp. wow, best deal on iTunes (5 stars) 9.99 for these 17 tracks??? WOW. This is almost identical to Elton's greatest hits volume 1 and 2 with Sacrifice, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and his live Don't Let the Sun (a song from 1974, rerecorded in the 90s) thrown in. There's no early-mid 80s material here, which is weird--almost totally 1970-76, but everyone knows that that WAS his best period. Still, most people who shop for greatest hits are casual fans or people wanting a BiographyBorn: March 25, 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, EnglandGenre: Pop Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s In terms of sales and lasting popularity, Elton John was the biggest pop superstar of the early '70s. Initially marketed as a singer/songwriter, John soon revealed he could craft Beatlesque pop and pound out rockers with equal aplomb. He could dip into soul, disco, and country, as well as classic pop balladry and even progressive rock. His versatility, combined with his effortless melodic skills, dynamic charisma, and flamboyant stage shows, made him the most popular recording artist of the '70s....
