A Night At the Opera (Deluxe Remastered Version) – QueenView More By Queen Our ReviewWith A Night At the Opera, Queen began the most experimental era of their career. For years they lurked as potential heirs to the Led Zeppelin hard-rock throne. However, starting here, they began expanding in so many directions that no one would ever pigeonhole them as just another rock band ever again. “Death On Two Legs” begins things in the heavy-metal arena, but “Lazing On a Sunday Afternoon” turns up the British music-hall camp. From there, the album ping pongs between serious hard rock (“I’m In Love With My Car,” “Sweet Lady”), keyboard-based pop (“You’re My Best Friend,” “Seaside Rendezvous”), bizarro prog-rock (“The Prophet’s Song”) and a sweet ballad (“Love of My Life”). “Bohemian Rhapsody” was the album centerpiece; its dense vocal orchestration is both brilliantly constructed and humorously underpinned. This Deluxe Edition features re-mastered sound and bonus cuts, including a retake of “Keep Yourself Alive” that had been thought lost, alternate mixes and live cuts that show the band’s evolving stage show.. Embracing the exaggerated pomp of prog rock and heavy metal, as well as vaudevillian music hall, the British quartet delved deeply into camp and bombast, creating a huge, mock-operatic sound with layered guitars and overdubbed vocals. Queen's music was a bizarre yet highly accessible fusion of the macho and the fey. For years, their albums boasted the motto "no synthesizers were used on this record," signaling their allegiance with the legions...
