Rating: 1/10
I have laughed my way through some deluded comments and reviews of
D'Souza's latest (thankfully in the minority), including the first user
review posted here. Accurate, objective, and based on sound research,
they say? HOGWASH! I've now read two of D'Souza's books and this is the
second film of his I've watched, and the ridiculousness of his
one-sided propaganda is so painfully obvious that it really needs no
commenting on. If rescripted fictional reenactments of Civil War-era
scenes qualify as valid research to you or you think you'd enjoy
sitting through about half an hour's worth of off-topic mumbojumbo
deflecting and making excuses for his recent "FRAUD" indictment before
even getting to the point, then by all means ... be my guest. What is
perhaps more interesting here may be the comparisons made between
D'Souza and a certain Michael Moore. I will fully admit that Moore is
no less a propagandist than D'Souza. The difference, though, is that
Moore comes across as much more humanistic and engaging (rather than
aloof) in his assertions, he has a much better sense of humor, he is
technically a superior filmmaker, and you won't find accounts of his
criminality as you easily can with D'Souza: NO, I do not trust a source
who led a wealthy young life as a privileged immigrant at Dartmouth
(where he outed numerous gays in the newspaper he edited), has only
been directly involved in government work for two years (under Reagan,
no less) followed by years and years of crafting his venomous opinions
at creepy think tanks like The Heritage Foundation), was fired as the
head of the CATHOLIC King's College due to proved infidelity,
karate-kicked his wife in the head before their divorce, and was found
guilty of campaign fraud (and still under probation and performing
weekly community service). Prison is really where this guy should be
right now! NO, I don't recommend this garbage to anyone except the
deluded and those who are so concerned with fairness and objectivity
that they feel the need to see and hear both sides before passing
judgment. Hey, at least my score of 1/10 gives this film more credit
than the film's 5/100 metascore.
