Factual errors:
A good Faraday cage (like the kind you would expect to ward off sentient energy-stealing aliens) won't allow radio transmissions in or out. So cellphones and radios won't work without some intentionally clever allowances.

User Review
Easily one of the worst films I've ever seen
Rating: 1/10
The Darkest Hour is without a doubt one of the absolute worst films
I've ever seen. You know how some really bad films are so bad that
they're actually sort of good/funny? This isn't one of them. It's just
plain bad. If it were a made-for-TV movie, it would still be one of the
worst I've ever seen. The only positive thing I can say about the film
is it has an interesting premise. The actual end product, however, is
sickeningly dull. We had two children with us and they were bored out
of their minds.
The plot is rife with clichés. Character development is hollow and
heartless. The script is dreadful. No one in the theatre laughed at any
of the jokes. The aliens are horribly designed. It's not scary. It's
not thrilling. And don't even get me started on the soundtrack...
Ultimately, this movie is an insult to sci-fi and just cinema in
general. I shudder to think of the amount of time and money put into
this film that could have been used for something infinitely better.
Please don't contribute to the waste.
